New Delhi, August 12: A 25-year-old hotel management student was stabbed to death in public view in the Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi. The entire incident which happened on Thursday evening was caught on CCTV, footage of which has been widely shared on social media. The deceased was identified as Mayank.
Police received a call on Thursday about a stabbing attack on a man near gate number 3 of the DDA market in Begumpur, a senior police officer said. The man was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, from where police discovered the injured person was Mayank Panwar, a resident of Shahpur Jat, Deputy Police Commissioner (South) Benita Mary said. Jaker.
Vikas Panwar, Mayank’s friend, told police the incident happened around 7 p.m. Thursday when they were both sitting in Qila, Begumpur in Malviya Nagar, where 4-5 men disputed with Mayank, the DCP said.

After the argument, they left, but soon returned and pelted the two friends with rocks, police said.
Vikas and Mayank tried to flee, but the group chased Mayank near door number 3 of the DDA market and stabbed him repeatedly, DCP said.

In the video, Mayank is seen running and being chased by some people. They catch up with him near a car and one of the defendants, dressed in white pants, stabs him several times.
A case under Articles 302 (murder) and 34 (common intent) of the ICC has been registered and an investigation is ongoing, police said.

The accused have been identified and efforts are being made to catch them, Jaiker said.
The reason for the incident has not yet been determined. Mayank had taken a hotel management course and was currently unemployed, police said.
