At Design Inn 2022, taking place on May 3 at the SkyCity Adelaide Ballroom ahead of the 2022 Australasian Hospitality Industry Conference and Exhibition (AHICE) on May 4-5, expect masterclasses, in-depth projects and evocative panel discussions featuring leading architects, designers, hoteliers, owners and major suppliers.

In front of more than 200 of the industry’s most creative minds, speakers will discuss some of the industry’s hottest trends through 16 keynotes, panel discussions and project presentations, as well as site tours. in town and epic networking events.

This year’s event, organized by SMco-hosted by the Government of South Australia and presented by key partners Grohe and Hansen Yuncken, will be headlined by a brand new HM Australasia-Pacific Hotel Design Awards magazine, including recognition of the best construction, conversion and Renovation, plus one overall winner, who will take home the 2022 Paul Davis Design Award (the hospitality industry’s premier design award).

On the masters program, Design Inn 2022’s main panel sessions include “The New Rules of Design,” moderated by Chada Partner and Creative Director Juliet Ashworth, who will dive into hot trends including art, food and beverages, post-pandemic trends and more; ‘Wellness in Hospitality’, hosted by Loren Inglis, Head of Brand Ambassador Reece, which will unveil the benchmark wellness design trends for 2022 and beyond; “Boutique Placemakers”, moderated by Rachel Luchetti, Director of Luchetti Krelle, which examines how boutique operators are approaching the “Next Normal” from a design perspective, within their brands; ‘Sustainability in Design’ moderated by WMK Director of Architecture – Client Services, Guy Blunden, who will examine how sustainability needs to be front and center, from planning to construction and opening; and ‘Hotel Chains’ Technical Insights’, hosted by Scott Carver Director Angela Biddle, which will uncover key trends from some of the industry’s leading in-house design, engineering and technical managers.

Design Inn 2022 will also feature a keynote from Mexico-based experiential brand strategist Michaelangelo L’Acqua, known for his work as W Hotels’ Global Music Director, alongside curation for Tom Ford, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Morgans Hotel Group and Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Voyages.

The event will also feature project showcases on QT Newcastle, AC Hotel by Marriott Melbourne Southbank, Melbourne Marriott Hotel Docklands, HotelMotel Adelaide, Sofitel Adelaide and EOS by SkyCity Adelaide (in-person on-site visits) and InterContinental Parramatta, which will also include a Designing to Country keynote presentation by FCAD Lead Consult and Creator, Matthew Fellingham.
