Indore: Two people were seriously injured after a group of pilgrims, who had stopped at a hotel in Gavhalu village on Khandwa Road to use the toilets, were brutally attacked by staff with hockey sticks and cooking tools. The dispute arose over payments for using the toilets.
The accused, according to the complainant, also threw hot oil at them. Two people were seriously injured in the incident and were admitted to intensive care at a private hospital in Indore, while six were discharged after preliminary treatment at MY Hospital.
Forces from four area police stations and senior police officials rushed to the scene soon after the incident and brought the situation under control.
The incident was reported at the Balraj Retreat Hotel when a group of two dozen kanwar yatris were on their way from Omkareshvara to Rau after collecting holy water from the Narmada River.
On complaint of Suraj, 22, a resident of Rangwasa in Rau, Simrol police registered a case against restaurant manager Balraj, Bhupesh, Soni, Deep, Rahul, Shivam Rajput, Yashwant, Bhupendra, Pradeep Goswami, Ashok Sharma , Dhan Singh Satyanarayan Upadhyay and others, while six were arrested.
Suraj’s friend Rajat Toke told TOI: “The kanwar yatris traveled in two groups. The first group arrived first at the hotel and used the restrooms. They also paid the same, but the hotel staff started demanding more money in advance for the second group. When they refused for the same and left the premises, the staff attacked the second group when they arrived at the hotel.
He said: “Omprakash Patidar and Piyush Patidar were admitted to intensive care at a private hospital in Indore with serious head injuries.”
Meanwhile, police said hotel staff claimed the pilgrims left the toilets dirty and also misbehaved with them, which escalated the fight.
“A case has been filed against the accused for attempted murder and under other articles and six have been arrested,” said Bhagwat Singh Virde, SP Rural.
