Outrigger launches ‘sustainable summer’ across the South Pacific


Outrigger Hotels and Resorts offers its guests a wide variety of on-site activations and engages in sponsorships and collaborations with local events, all related in one way or another to the preservation and protection of the environment, as part of its Sustainable Summer initiative.

Outrigger’s Vice President of Global Communications and Social Responsibility, Monica Salter, said Outrigger’s sustainable summer began on June 8 for World Oceans Day and will run through August 31. .

She said this platform is an extension of Outrigger’s ZONE (OZONE), the global hotel brand conservation initiative that delivers meaningful experiences for Outrigger’s guests, guests and local communities, with a focus on health of oceans and coral reefs.

“Throughout the sustainable summer, fun and engaging family activities, beach cleanups and educational offerings allow guests to share what they’ve learned back home with them, allowing efforts to expand well into the beyond the shores of the Outrigger properties,” she said.

Some of the June activations include: coral planting at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort (June 10 from 3:30 p.m.); Round the Island Beach Cleanup at Castaway Island – join the environmental team for a walk around the island to pick up litter washed up along the beach (June 16 at 2:30 p.m.); Terrace of Modern Art (TOMA) at Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger – a festive art exhibition with renowned surf photographer Zak Noyle to benefit the Surfrider Foundation (June 18, 6-10 p.m.); and the 6th Annual OZONE Day at the Waikiki Aquarium: fun for the whole family with a dozen ocean-focused booths from NOAA, the Bishop Museum, and Raw Elements sunscreen at Friends of Hōkūle ‘a and Hawai’iloa (June 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
