Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia launch major strategic partnership


Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia have signed a new strategic partnership agreement which “will significantly expand the networks, lounges and loyalty programs of both airlines”, according to the award-winning carriers.

Beginning in mid-2022, the partnership will provide travelers with greater access, enhanced customer experiences and unique benefits when traveling between Australia and Qatar Airways’ global network, with convenient gateway transit options Australian airlines from Qatar Airways and major Virgin Australia hubs including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

“For those traveling further afield, they will benefit from the award-winning facilities at our hub, Hamad International Airport, allowing them to continue their journey.

“It also opens up the beautiful, cosmopolitan nation of Australia to our passengers traveling on Qatar Airways flights, after such a long and difficult time,” he said.

Qatar Airways currently offers daily flights to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, as well as three weekly flights to Adelaide and then to Auckland, New Zealand.

Through the new codeshare agreement, Qatar Airways passengers will be able to travel seamlessly to 35 destinations on Virgin Australia’s extensive domestic network, including popular major Australian tourist destinations including Cairns, Gold Coast, Alice Springs and Broome , on a single reservation.

Qatar Airways passengers will also have access to short-haul international markets recently relaunched by Virgin Australia, including Fiji and Queenstown, New Zealand.

Similarly, Virgin Australia customers and members of the airline’s award-winning Velocity Frequent Flyer loyalty program will be able to directly access Qatar Airways’ route network from more than 140 destinations worldwide, including the Middle East, Europe and Africa, via the airline’s hub and Hamad International in Doha, ranked “best airport in the world” by Skytrax.

For Virgin Australia customers, access to Qatar Airways’ extensive network provides unique connectivity to a wide range of destinations and the ability to book Qatar Airways flights through the Virgin Australia website.

Qatar Airways serves 54 cities in Europe with more than 600 flights per week, offering a wide range of new choices to Virgin Australia customers.
